What I collect, why, who receives it and how to delete it. I collect only what the service cannot run without: no ads, no data sales.

Version: September 6, 2026 commonsensedota.com

In short — what matters

Details are below. If you are short on time, these points are enough.

Data is never sold

Not to advertisers, not to brokers, not for mailing lists. Never, in any form.

I never see your card

Stripe handles the whole payment on their side.

Recording the lesson is your call

Three options in the request form: with video, takeaways only, or no recording at all.

You can delete it yourself

The "Delete my account" button in your profile: the profile, the contacts and the screenshots are wiped right away, the rest is anonymised. Or by email: I reply within 24 hours.

1. Who processes your data and on what grounds

The operator, the grounds for processing and your rights

The data controller is Common Sense Coaching LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company (USA), 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE #7092, Albuquerque, NM 87110. I handle the data myself; contacts are in section 7.

I process data on three grounds: to deliver what you bought from me (Terms of Service), to meet the requirements of the law, and on your consent — where you gave it, for example when you chose how the lesson is recorded. Signing in through Steam means consent to the processing described in this policy.

You have the right to know what data of yours I hold, to ask me to correct, block or delete it, to withdraw your consent and to demand that processing stop. All of it takes one email to any contact in section 7; I answer within 24 hours. You can delete the account without an email too — the "Delete my account" button in your profile; what gets wiped and what stays in the database is in section 5.

Withdrawing your consent to a recording does not undo services already delivered, but it stops further processing: I delete the recording and its transcript.

If you think I am handling your data wrongly, you can take it to court. But write to me first: almost everything gets solved by email.

2. What I collect and why

Account, player profile, lesson recordings
DataWhy
The nickname and ID of your Steam accountSigning in is through Steam only: this pair is how I know whose account it is and what student status it has
The recording option you chose for lessons, and when you chose itProof of consent: without it there is no telling what you agreed to. I do not ask for your year of birth and do not store it
Your IP address and browser details — at the moment you tick a consent: the terms checkbox at purchase, the choice of recording formatProof that consent was given: when and from where. These data are used for nothing else
Your name — if you put it in your profile or in the coaching request yourselfSo I can call you by name in the dashboard and in the lesson
E-mail — if you wrote to my e-mail yourself, or entered it at checkoutTo reply to you. I do not ask for it myself — Stripe asks at checkout and sends the receipt there
Your booking in the lesson calendar: the time you picked and your time zoneSo the lesson happens on time and times are shown in your zone. The calendar is on the site itself; only the lesson time and your nickname go into the coach's personal calendar
The fact and the amount of a student status payment — they come from StripeTo switch access on and account for the payment. There are no card details in them
Player profile (position, MMR, heroes) — if you filled it in yourselfSo the site and the lessons adapt to your level
Discord login — if you provided it when signing up for coachingCommunication about lessons: the lessons themselves are held in Discord
A link to your Dotabuff profile — if you provided it when signing up for coaching (an optional field)So I can see your match statistics before the lesson and do not have to ask for them again
The recording of a coaching lesson and its transcriptTo keep your personal lesson document: takeaways, homework, clips of the key moments. Only for those who train with me personally: student status alone creates no recordings
A screenshot of your progress, if you uploaded one, and your review of a lesson, if you wrote oneThe progress tracker in your dashboard. A screenshot and a review reach the public "Student stories" only on two conditions: you allowed yourself to be shown there with a tick in your dashboard, and I approved the screenshot. After that any visitor of the website sees them — together with your in-game nickname

I do not keep a separate audio file of the lesson — only the video recording and its transcript. In a lesson we talk about the game: better not to say personal details out loud — everything spoken ends up in the lesson transcript.

I do not collect and never see payment data (card number etc.) — Stripe processes it on their side.

3. Cookies and browser storage

Technical cookies only. No ad or tracking cookies
WhatWhy
Session cookieKeeps you logged in. Technical — login does not work without it. Protected: not accessible to scripts, not sent to other websites
Language choice cookieRemembers which language you read the website in
Currency choice cookieRemembers which currency you read the prices in
Cookie for the dismissed "status is running out" reminderRemembers that you closed the banner and does not show it again. Lives 30 days
The "you have an account" flag and the header display: your in-game nickname and avatar from SteamSo the home page greets you and shows "Go to the academy" instead of "Sign in". These cookies let no one in — the pass is in the session cookie only; they hold exactly what is on the screen anyway. They live a year and are erased when you sign out
Browser localStorage: watched videos, fragment watch progress, collapsed sections"Watched" marks and progress bars. Stored ONLY in your browser, never sent to my server

There are no advertising or tracking cookies on the website. I have nothing to collect your history across other websites with, and no reason to.

I do not let third-party services collect your history on the website and follow you across other websites: there are no ad networks, pixels or external analytics here.

4. Who receives your data

Hosting, payments, AI and video. Never advertisers

To advertisers, data brokers, mailing lists or for sale in general — never, in no form. I share only with those without whom the service physically does not work, and only what they need for that work:

  • Taking the payment. You pay through Stripe: it sees your card details and the email you enter at checkout, and passes on to me only the fact and the amount of the payment.
  • Hosting. The website runs on a rented server — the host sees technical logs, like any host.
  • Third-party artificial intelligence services. Without them the assembly of lesson takeaways does not work. What goes there is the lesson recording and its transcript, out of which the takeaways, the homework and the list of mistakes are built. Under the terms on which I use these services, what is sent is not used to train their models.
  • Dota 2 game statistics services. They receive the in-game account number and match IDs — to check the match history when the free features are unlocked, pull up a match from a coaching request, and build the movement comparison against pro players. They get no nickname and no email.
  • Discord. The lessons themselves and the group rooms live in Discord: it sees your login, your voice and what you type in the lesson chat.
  • Video hosting. A lesson recording sits on a video host as an unlisted video: it is not in search and not in the channel list, and opens only through the direct link in your dashboard.
  • The coach's personal calendar (Google). The lesson time and your nickname go there so the coach sees the schedule in his own calendar. Contacts and names do not.

Search is processed anonymously: only the request text and the player profile — position, MMR, favorite heroes — go out. Your name, nickname or Steam account ID are not there. Coaching cannot be fully anonymized — the breakdown is personal, it is about you: what is needed to build it is what goes out.

Where your data goes. Some of the services listed above are based in other countries. Only what is described in this section goes to them.

A separate case is when the law requires data to be shared.

5. Retention and deletion

60 and 90 days automatically · the account — a button in your profile

Account data is kept while the account exists. The rest:

WhatHow long it is kept
The result history you see in your dashboardThe last 30 requests. When paid access ends, the history lives another 30 days and is erased
The consent record: what you accepted and when, from which IP and browser3 years — that is how long it is needed as proof
A coaching request draft you did not submit7 days
Progress screenshotsWhile the account exists. You can take your screenshot down yourself, with a button in the dashboard
Coaching lesson recordings and their transcriptsWhile coaching is ongoing and while they are needed for your lesson document

I delete a lesson recording and its transcript on your request. Learning materials made from the lesson remain in the Service: they are fragments of in-game situation breakdowns, and your site nickname and account ID are not shown in them. I do not promise full anonymity: the in-game nickname is visible on screen, and your name may be spoken aloud. Your personal lesson document — takeaways, homework, progress tracker — is deleted together with the recording if you ask.

You can delete the account yourself: profile → "Delete my account". The nickname, the avatar, the name, the email and the Discord link are wiped right away; uploaded screenshots are deleted together with the files on disk; every piece of your data disappears from requests, bookings and the student card, and the rows themselves stay empty; the card leaves the public "Student stories". Deleting the account does not stop the renewal of student status paid by card — cancel it with "Manage payment" before you delete, it is one click. What stays in the database is an anonymised account row and the payment and consent logs — with no name, the law requires that. Lesson recordings and their transcripts I delete on a separate request, one email. Do not want to press it yourself — write to any contact below and I will delete it.

About age. I do not collect or store your year of birth. If I learn that a recording was made with a minor without the parents' consent, I delete it together with everything made from it: the takeaways, the homework, the clips and the lesson transcript. One email is enough — from you or from a parent.

6. Changes to this policy

A new version on this page, with the date at the top

If what I collect or who I share it with changes, I publish a new revision on this page and update the date at the top.

If the change is material — for example, a new data recipient appears — I additionally announce it on the website, in your dashboard.

7. Contacts

Email and Discord — reply within 24 hours
  • E-mail: support@commonsensedota.com
  • Discord: commonnsense

A request for a copy of your data — in the same email. Deletion — the "Delete my account" button in your profile, or the same email.
